What is a perfect day?

Some days are the perfect sunny-day kind of days, where the kettle is whistling in the kitchen, open curtains are fluttering with the pleasant breeze from the shore and everything is in order. This kind of day is considered as a monotonous routine by most of us. We wake up with the alarm; perfectly on time, water running through our taps is warm and we are able to take hot showers before putting on our finely ironed clothes. We make the breakfast and the eggs on our plate are perfect sunnyside with crispy brown toast. Getting plenty of time to pet our fluffy fellows and feeding them their favorite treats, we grab our keys and say goodbye to our homes.

While driving in the empty streets, we chase the patches of cloud on the highway and reach our workplaces right on time. Meeting and greeting the strangers, chit-chatting with friends and peers, we start our day with a perfect cup of coffee from the cafeteria. The rest of the day passes smoothly, right as we have planned it to be until we tuck up ourselves into the cozy beds at the night time. However, what most of us fail to understand is that “a perfect day” is a blessing that we don’t reckon as one.

Yesterday, I woke up late in the morning and realizing that I was already 5 minutes late for my bus, got dressed up in a rush. I left home without doing breakfast or taking it with me. Luckily, I got the bus, however upon reaching the university, I came to know that the classes were canceled. Instantly, I called the driver and asked him to pick me up. The driver arrived quite late which was surprising for me because he drives like Paul Walker. 😀  Upon inquiring, he told me that he got stuck into my dad’s office due to a Chinese visit and later got stuck in a judge’s route.

My sister was continuously calling me from home because the driver was to pick her up. She was already 10 minutes late for her class and was brutally mad. When we reached home, she sat into the car with a legit boiling head and a red face which clearly showed the signs of madness. The moment she sat into the car, she started complaining about how she had been waiting for ages, that driver needs to behave more responsibly and everything happened because I intervened in her pick-up schedule.

At first, I reckoned this behavior of her’s as complete insanity, however, I realized that this is not insanity or madness, but the fact that we cannot tolerate any kind of changes or imperfections in our plans. What we call as our routine is actually a blessing and we need to realize that not every day is a perfect day. Some days, the sun won’t shine and the sky would pour on you without an umbrella. Somedays there would be broken bridges and mountains to mend but you have to stick through it.

This world is established on the basic principles of spontaneity and coincidence. Everything that is happening to us, or around us is a matter of spontaneity where we have no clue what is going to happen next. Some days, we come across beautiful coincidences like meeting new people, falling in love with stranger’s eyes or bringing home an adorable dog that fell astray. The other days, things might get ugly and horrible. You might encounter a horrible sight like watching someone die in front of you, or maybe you meet someone you never wanted to see again in your life.

Every day is not a perfect day, some days would be terrible or just not as good as your regular days. However, you have to stick through it and give space to the people likewise. Trust me, this world is a rushing maniac where everybody cares about themselves. Nothing is going to stop and give a thought about what YOU want from life. Nothing is going to work according to your plans and desires. There would be days when things will go against your plans and your routine will get shattered but it’s okay!

Take a deep breath and remember that this is life, where everything around you is spontaneous and uncertain, even you, yourself. Whenever it is not a perfect day, give yourself a pat on the shoulder and tell your instincts that in this world, such things are bound to be happening. It is okay if all of your plans got shattered if your dress got spoiled because of the rain or if you missed the quiz because of arriving late in the class, because tomorrow, this is not going to happen. Heraclitus, a Greek philosopher said these enlightening words,

“No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it’s not the same river and he’s not the same man.”

Tomorrow, you will rise higher than yesterday. If not tomorrow, maybe the day after tomorrow or the day after that, but eventually you will. These things are a part of our life and we have to survive with them. Stop getting mad on people and on yourself! This is not going to reverse the damage that has been caused, but you will drive yourself crazy and deprive yourself of all the great opportunities that are yet to come. We all stay positive in our perfect-days, but the real thing is to see how many of us can remain positive in the imperfect days of our lives. That is when you will pass the test of “Positive vibes only, and by passing this test, you will make even the worst days of your lives tolerable.

Adios,

xoxo.
