Let’s say no to ‘The Age of Disguise’
Wrapped up in flamboyant disguises, we all love to play sweet-heart with our peers and acquaintances. Fancier the disguise, more are the chances that people would believe in you. Welcome to the age of disguise where cons are appreciated and real people are looked down upon.
In the golden times, things were very different. Simple and honest people were cherished earnestly by the people while the cons were the left-outs in every society. However, somehow, this notion changed with time and people started admiring the people with better skills in the art of lying, fooling others and making them innocent fall for their traps. People not only admired the cons but reflected a deep urge to master in these skills themselves.
“Oh, what a day it was! The whole class cheated in the exam and the professor didn’t get the slightest hint about our cheating shenanigans.” This is how it started, moreover slowly and gradually from our fake appearances and shrewd guiles, this plague of disguise leeched from the surface to the very core of our existence; our spiritual level, until it became, “I kept her waiting in the hotel just so that she could pay the bill for me. Oh, poor girl, she has no idea that I consider her nothing more than a whore.”
Times like today make me scared. At night time when the lights are out and the world is sleeping, I peep out of my window. The moonlight is no more there as it used to seep in through the window sill, but the bright yellow lamp post has replaced it now. Drifting apart from our origin, we are forgetting who we are and who we used to be.
Every morning, before leaving home, we all stand in front of our mirrors and smile helplessly before wearing our masks; the disguise that will determine who we are going to be for the rest of our day.
An age where laughter of the cons could be heard out loud while the sobs of the honesty could be heard at night. All these disguises have blinded us to an extent where we can’t make a judgment between what is right and what is not. However, one thing that I know for sure is that in all this scenario, righteousness is suffering the most. Honest people are seen struggling with finding the explanations for the sins they have never committed. Honesty is the best policy and truth never hides are the rustic conventions, forget them! They no more exist now! Our children or maybe our grandchildren or the great-grandchildren might not even know that honesty ever existed in this world.

Ever got stuck in a situation where you got caught in a lie and upon intriguing, the other person, apparently your friend, lies straight into your face and you are left with nothing more to say, but the tears in your eyes as in how to explain yourself to the other person. At this moment, our heartaches because of the betrayal more than it does for not being able to justify that you are not lying but your so-called friend is.
Gone are the times when the truth would come out! Nowadays, the truth does come out, but after the person who was suffering through hell has been laid down to comfort by death.
Feeling hopeless? Wondering how is this ever going to stop? Well, if not completely, we surely can make a tiny speck of difference by at least becoming a better person ourselves. How wonderful would it be if one tiny person out of several billion human beings become a beautiful person?
Let’s make a vow with yourself every day, as your eyes open up to the first ray of sunshine, that we will never wear such masks again. That we will stay loyal to ourselves and will retain the honesty inside our hearts; an honesty that makes human supreme to any other creature in this universe. We all make mistakes, but let’s make a promise today that we will try to become a better version of what we were yesterday! Only then can we sleep like a winter bear, free from all the agonies and sad memories.
